A Historical Snapshot of IAU, STB

The Islamic Azad University, South Tehran Branch is the third among the other cognates that was established in Tehran in 1985/7/1 with a focus on technical and engineering disciplines and commenced its venture with 700 students in a number of fields and majors. The university got equipped with laboratories and workshops and staffed with specialist personnel in order to embak on running associate degree program (mainly technical) and a host of bachelor’s programs. Later, bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs were introduced. The Faculty of Engineering is the greatest in area and number of students among all IAU polytechnic faculties in Iran. Following the year 1985, the disciplines expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively. The students attend their classes in two engineering complexes, one humanities complex (Vali-e-asr) and faculties of industrial engineering, art and architecture, and physical training and athletic sciences. Presently, 62 spaces for laboratories and workrooms in an area of 3600 square meters and 4 research centers, 3 research nuclei, 1 ISI-indexed journal, 5 dual-ministry-accredited science and research journals, 2 A+ IAU-ratified journals, and 8 general scientific journals authorized by IAU publications commission. Currently, the chancellor of the university is Dr. Seyed Azim Hosseini.
