Following the approval of Imam Khomeini (RAH) in 1982, the Islamic Azad University, Rasht Branch started working in Rasht at the same time as 10 other branches in the country. The first field of study established by this branch of the university was mathematics, which accepted students from the beginning of the 1983 academic year. The Islamic Azad University, Rasht Branch has achieved remarkable achievements in various scientific, research, and cultural fields during its activity. Among these achievements are the opening of the university’s Technology Incubator jointly with the establishment of Guilan Science and Technology Park; obtaining approval from the Ministry of Science, Research and Technology; obtaining approval for the establishment of the Advanced Materials Testing and Evaluation Laboratory from the General Directorate of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran; developing innovations in the technology of agricultural machinery and conversion industries in the field of agriculture and food; publishing 6 international scientific and scientific research journals; publishing over 4000 scientific articles in prestigious international and scientific research journals by the faculty members of Rasht Branch, Islamic Azad University; winning the title of top researcher of the country and the province by the faculty members of the Branch during different years; publishing 125 volumes of university books; concluding 27 memorandums of cooperation with organizations and companies; establishing a plant pathology clinic with an official license obtained from the Agricultural and Natural Resources Engineering Organization of Iran; implementing a national plan for the “Design, Construction, and Operation of a Unit for the Extraction of Caffeine from Tea Waste”; and patenting dozens of inventions. At present, the Islamic Azad University, Rasht Branch is proud to be equipped with a complex extending over an area of 550,000 square meters and also an area of about 19,000 square meters of educational space, as well as laboratories featuring advanced machinery and equipment, all aiming to offer educational services to the children of our homeland. Also, with over 13,000 students in 151 fields of study at different levels of education, 60,000 people have so far graduated from this branch and are now serving the country.
