Islamic Azad University of Langarud Branch in September 2006 with the support of the University Founding Board and the Board of Trustees of Higher Education of the city with the appointment of Mr. Yousef Bagheri as the head of the center with two fields of industrial electricity and architectural drawing and about 300 students to It started as an engineering technical unit.

Engineer Bagheri was appointed as the head of the university center in 2007 and continued his activity for one year.

In 2008, Dr. Mehrdad Nasri Tajan was elected as the head of the center. In June 2009, with the end of Dr. Nasri's sentence, Dr. Shahram Ghanbari began his activity as the new president of this university center.

In February 2009, Langrud University Center, which was under the supervision of Lahijan Branch (mother unit), became an independent unit. In January 2013, Dr. Keyvan Saeb became the President of the University and after three years, Dr. Amir Hossein Firoozan was appointed as the head of the unit. After 5 years, Dr. Mohammad Reza Askari Pourlahiji was appointed as the head of the university. At present, Langrud branch has 52 technical and engineering fields, 15 humanities and basic sciences, as well as 490 students.
