Islamic Azad University, Sanandaj Branch was established on September 14, 1983 in Sanandaj, the center of Kurdistan Province of Iran, and started its educational activities with 22 agricultural associate students. This unit operates in all fields of education, technology, research and patent registration. This program is offered in associate degree up to phd, has 5 faculties and one faculty of skills and entrepreneurship and higher schools (SAMA). And has three research centers, agriculture, animal husbandry and medicinal plants, family and Kurdistanolog, Technology growth center and tourism and handicraft innovation house. In addition, they have seven active publications, which are Islamic studies of the family, knowledge management in sports and strategic management of industrial systems, grade A, Persian language and literature, grade B, physical activity and health, clinical study of large animals, and excellent education, grade C, from Islamic Azad university evaluation.

The Islamic Azad University of Sanandaj intends to play a axial role in the production of science in the province as a scientific pole in the west of the country to become a criterion for the units of the Islamic Azad University. The main mission of this university is to promote science and technology, teach creative people, create a lively atmosphere and improve the quality of university life. We believe that by relying on efficient human resources and the use of new educational equipment and technologies and educational assistance, we can improve the quality of educational services, institutionalize research, develop industry relations and satisfy our stakeholders. And university move towards a problem-oriented university and entrepreneur in the region , and we will raising the impact and role of the university in creating businesses based on technology and knowledge.
