Introduction
Islamic Azad University, Hamedan Branch, commenced its activities on the 25th of Mordad, 1366 (five years after the proposal by Hashemi Rafsanjani to head the Islamic Consultative Assembly). In the beginning, this university offered programs in Islamic Studies, English, and Mathematics at the undergraduate level, and Accounting, Arabic Theology, Persian Literature, Elementary Education, and Experimental Sciences at the associate degree level. It started with 642 students and six staff members, thanks to the efforts and dedication of Ali Akbar Famili Rohani, the first university president.
This educational institution, without relying on any government budget or public donations, has made significant strides in its thirty-six years of establishment. With a vast campus spanning over 140 hectares, it now educates over 10,000 students in approximately 214 different academic fields, including Urban Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Natural Resources and Environmental Engineering, Nursing, Zoology, Cell and Molecular Biology (Microbiology), Mathematics, Atomic and Molecular Physics, Nuclear Physics, Political Science, Geography, Management, Law, and more.
The university boasts 237 faculty members, 300 staff, and 214 academic programs, with around 70,000 alumni. It is organized into four faculties: Humanities, Basic Sciences, Technical and Engineering, and Art and Architecture, along with five affiliated educational centers in various cities of the Hamedan province. It holds the distinction of being one of the largest and highest-ranked university branches, designated as a "Type A Very Large Unit" according to classification.
