Islamic Azad University, Azadshahr branch, started its activity in 1988 in five academic fields in humanities. At the moment, Azadshahr branch is known as the pole of humanities, agriculture and natural resources of Golestan province, with two academic centers (Kalaleh and Maraveh Tappeh). This academic branch has approximately 180 scientific members and employees, as well as 5400 students in various academic fields from the associate to Ph.D. degrees. Furthermore, this branch has an "innovation center for processing industries", a "combined innovation center (plant nursery and aquaculture)", "technology incubator" and "food science and technology research center". The research and educational space of this university includes 3500 m2 of laboratory and workshop facilities, 400 m2 of roofed greenhouse, 920 m2 language laboratory and visual facilities, libraries with an area of 830 m2, 350 m2 of computer site, 469 m2 of conference hall, 7000 m2 of car parking, as well as 5 schools (Sama complex), which has made this university unique and excellent in Golestan province. Recently, with the decision of the president of Islamic Azad University, Azadshahr branch is implementing a pilot project to create a plant nursery and fish farming using bioflock method.
