On the 2nd of Khordad 1364, Khoy, entitled with the house of pleasantness ( Darossafa )which in the course of the history, like an emerald carpet, has been replete with the tenets of true beliefs in faith in the Almighty- Allah, felt the gracious breeze of the offshoot sprout in its fertile soil of knowledge like a prolific tree whose pleasant odor on the hopes and development of tomorrow spread itself and took the name of Islamic Azad university – Khoy branch.

This university was first established in Shahid Rajai Technical College with four fields in undergraduate and associate of arts with 195 students. With the presidency of Late Ayatollah Mohammad Sadegh Najmi , this newly established university tried to put up with the difficulties and gradually overcome to them. Nowadays, it is presented as a pole scientific institution in the country.

This university, by scoring the highest rank, is the outcome of the tolerance and painstaking of men and women who sought their love in the corners of wisdom and ability; and the consequence of their endeavor is the possibility and stout foundation which have been the origin of valuable services towards the scientific and academic society.
